This page is for Grade 2 students and their parents. Read here for information on what we are covering in class this quarter. I will also post ideas for activities to do on your computer at home.
Web Quest – Exploring the ASK website
All classes have now completed our Web Quest for exploring the ASK website. Your challenge is to complete or repeat the webquest at home! Below is a picture of the webquest sheet that I handed out. Please follow the instructions carefully and teach someone at home how to find and look around the site. You may find it interesting to look at the different blogs of ES teachers, and to explore the photo gallery.
World Math Day
To all Grade 2 students, or Grade 1 students that registered at home,
Get online on the World Math Day site from 1pm Monday 28th February (Kuwait time). That is when it is officially 1st March somewhere in the world. World Math Day 2011 will officially be over at 1pm Wednesday 2nd March (Kuwait time).
Once it is officially World Math Day, then the rules apply. You may wish to have an adult read the rules to you:
It will probably not be possible to play World Math Day at school during this time, as Grade 3, 4, and 5 students have booked computer lab space to play. So I strongly encourage you to play at home if you can. 🙂
Every student who participates on the official day will receive a certificate (that I will print out for you within a week or so if you are in Grade 2). If you play 60 games or more on the day, then you get a special ‘Platinum’ certificate. More information can be found under the ‘Prizes’ section of the WMD website.
If you are in Grade 2, then you have been given your own username and password to go onto the site from me in class already.
Click on ‘Sign In’ at the top of page. Then click on ‘Play Now’. Choose your level and begin! The site will then search around the world for who else in your age category is online at the exact same time, and you will compete against them by answering simple basic facts problems for 60 seconds.
It is just practice until 1 March. But it is so much fun! When it is 1 March your games and scores count toward the total for you, your class, and your school, and it is possible to win prizes.
January 2011: MS Word Test
Graded papers went home in the last two weeks showing your test on formatting in MS Word. The test required the students to copy a sentence, then to change the font, size and color of text, and add a picture. The test was primarily on following instructions, and we completed the test together as a class, one step at a time. It was a great test of patience for us, wasn’t it Grade 2? Results from this test contribute toward the Computer grade for the Quarter 2 report cards.
In Grade 2 we are working on saving our documents to our USB flash drives. However we will not be graded on this, it is just good practice for next year, and it will be nice to have some evidence of our time in Computer class to take home with us at the end of this school year!
